4th Festival of Suffolk Poetry
Gregory Warren Wilson – Nancy Mattson
Headlining the festival will be an old friend of SPS, Gregory Warren Wilson. Gregory is a professional violinist, a dancer and a poet. He was adjudicator of the Crabbe Memorial Poetry Competition in 2014.
Nancy Mattson will be making her first appearance for us. Nancy was born in Canada, and when I spoke to her I was delighted to hear that she has not lost her Canadian accent, despite having moved here in 1990.
We are blessed with being able to engage Terry Waite CBE to present his new book of memories, prose and poetry Out of the Silence. He will be In Conversation with Lord Phillips of Sudbury. The pairing was a great hit a couple of years ago when Terry was our castaway in Desert Island Poems.
Two of our own poets will open the evening, Elizabeth Cook and Antony Johae.
Earlier in the day, the Café Poets will have been strutting their stuff during the afternoon, which ends with the usual Open Mic. Also during the afternoon, Suffolk ONE sixth form students will have been performing and holding mini-workshops in the adjacent St Peter’s Hall.
Refreshments will also be available in St Peter’s Hall, provided by the Green Café. A bar will be open in the John Peel Centre from 18:00.
The early birds will have been at the workshops: Gregory Warren Wilson leading Poetry and Music, Antony Johae with Getting Published, and Derek Adams guiding people into using Cinematic Techniques to improve their poetry.
